The Food Waste Problem

Food waste is a serious problem around the world. Every year, millions of tons of food are thrown away, even though much of it is still perfectly safe to eat. One reason for this is that supermarkets often reject vegetables and fruits that do not look perfect. If a carrot is bent or an apple has a strange shape, stores will not sell it because they believe customers only want beautiful food.

Throwing away food is also bad for the environment. When food is wasted, it also wastes all the water and energy that were used to grow and transport it. To help solve this problem, some companies have started selling "ugly" vegetables at lower prices to show people that they taste just as good. Also, at home, we can reduce waste by making a shopping list and buying only what we really need to cook.
