Smart Crows

Crows are very common black birds. Many people think they are just noisy pests, but scientists say they are actually very intelligent. ( 1 ), crows can solve complex puzzles to get food. They are also known to use tools, which is a very rare ability for birds.

In one famous experiment, scientists put some meat at the bottom of a narrow glass tube. A crow could not reach the meat with its beak. So, the clever bird found a straight piece of wire and bent the end of it to make a hook. Then, it used the hook to ( 2 ) the meat out of the glass tube. This experiment showed how creative crows can be when they are hungry.

Crows also have excellent memories. They can easily remember the faces of human beings. If a person is mean to a crow, the bird will remember that person's face and might even attack them later. ( 3 ), it is a very good idea to be nice to these clever birds if you see them in your neighborhood.
