Many people use sticky notes, often called Post-it Notes, to leave messages or remember things. But the invention of this useful item was actually an accident. In 1968, a scientist named Spencer Silver was trying to create a very strong glue for his company. However, he made a weak glue instead. If you put it on paper, the paper would stick to things, but it was very easy to peel off. For many years, no one knew what to do with this weak glue.

Then, in 1974, another scientist named Art Fry had a problem. He sang in a church choir and used pieces of paper to mark the pages in his songbook. But the papers often fell out. He remembered Silver's weak glue and put some on his bookmarks. They stayed in the book but didn't tear the pages when he took them off. Soon, the company started selling these sticky notes, and they became a big success all over the world.
