A Day of Volunteering

Last month, Yuta and his classmates visited a local nursing home to do volunteer work. A nursing home is a place where older people live and receive care. Yuta's teacher thought it would be a good experience for the students to learn how to help others in their community.

When they arrived, the students split into small groups. Yuta's group decided to help clean the windows and the garden. After finishing their cleaning tasks, the students spent time talking with the older residents. Yuta talked to an 80-year-old man named Mr. Tanaka. Mr. Tanaka told Yuta many interesting stories about his life when he was a young boy. Yuta was surprised to learn that their town used to have a large river where children could swim.

At the end of the day, the students sang a song for the residents. Everyone smiled and clapped their hands. Yuta felt very happy because he could bring joy to the older people. He promised himself that he would visit the nursing home again soon.
