Alexander Graham Bell is famous all over the world for inventing the telephone. In the 1870s, people used the telegraph to send messages quickly, but they could only send short text signals. Bell wanted to find a way to send human voices over a wire instead of just signals. ( 1 ), he worked hard day and night with his assistant, Thomas Watson, to create a new machine.

In March 1876, Bell finally succeeded. The story goes that he accidentally spilled some acid on himself while working. He called Watson for help using the machine they had built. Watson heard Bell's voice clearly through the wire. This famous moment was the first successful phone call in history.

Soon, telephones became very popular. They completely changed how people communicate with each other. Today, thanks to Bell's amazing ( 2 ), we can easily talk to our friends and family ( 3 ) they live in the world.
