Library Committee Report: Summary and Action Plan (September)
To all students and faculty,
Thank you to the 450 students who participated in our 'Future Library' survey last month. The goal was to identify student priorities for enhancing the school library environment. The results clearly indicate a desire for substantial changes, as shown in the attached chart.
While the request for a dedicated Quiet Study Area received the most enthusiastic support, the estimated cost and time required for construction mean we must address it in the final phase of our plan. Instead, we have decided to implement a three-step process over the next six months.
First, we will focus on improving the Digital Resource Access. This requires only a software upgrade and will be completed by the end of October. Next, we will pilot a system to extend the library's opening hours by one hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting in November. This allows us to gauge student interest before making it permanent.
Finally, the committee will present the case for the new Quiet Study Area to the school board in December, seeking the necessary funding for the major structural changes. We believe this phased approach is the most efficient use of our current budget and resources. Updates will be posted monthly.
Chart: Student Preference for Library Improvements (N=450)
This chart shows the percentage of students who selected each option as one of their top two priorities for library improvement.
| Improvement Option | Percentage of Students |
|---|---|
| 1. Quiet Study Area (New construction) | 45% |
| 2. Longer Opening Hours (Trial basis) | 35% |
| 3. Digital Resource Access (Software upgrade) | 12% |
| 4. Small In-Library Cafe | 8% |
Note: Students were allowed to select up to two options. These reported percentages sum to 100%; adding percentages does not identify the number of distinct students supporting those options.
According to the Chart: Student Preference for Library Improvements, which of the following is true about the survey results?
What is the primary reason the Library Committee is implementing a 'phased approach' to the changes, as stated in the Summary and Action Plan?
Based on the Library Committee Report, put the following events and actions in chronological order:
Which two statements accurately describe the relationship between the Student Preference Chart and the Committee's Action Plan? (Select two items)
