Text A: Principles of Ecotourism
Ecotourism is defined as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education."
Unlike traditional tourism, which often focuses only on the traveler's enjoyment, true ecotourism must provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
Furthermore, it must empower local communities by providing stable employment and ensuring that residents have a voice in how tourism develops.
A key principle is minimizing impact. This includes respecting local culture, minimizing waste, and using resources sustainably. Education, for both the tourist and the host community, is fundamental to the experience.
Text B: My "Eco-Tour" in Costa Verde

Date: October 15, 2025
I just returned from the "Green Jungle Tour" in Costa Verde. I chose it because it was advertised as ecotourism.
My trip started with a long bus ride to the jungle. When we arrived at the resort, I was surprised. It was a huge hotel owned by a multinational corporation, and the staff were all brought in from the capital city.
We went on a guided walk, which was nice, but the guide just named trees and didn't talk about conservation.
In the evening, they served a huge buffet with food from all over the world, but not much local food. I saw a lot of food being thrown away.
We never visited the local village nearby or bought any local crafts. While the jungle was beautiful, I feel the tour was just "green-washing" and didn't really help the local people or the environment.
What is the main purpose of Text A?
According to Text B, put the following events of Maria's trip in chronological order.
Which detail in Text B shows a lack of direct involvement with the nearby village, unlike the local-community principle described in Text A?
What does Maria most likely mean by "green-washing" in Text B?
