Blog Post: Culture Corner - My Trip to the Silk Road
Yesterday was amazing! I finally made it to the Silk Road exhibition at the National History Museum. To be honest, I went mainly because my history teacher told us the Chinese coinage section was important, but the textiles from Persia were the real surprise. They were so vibrant and complicated. I didn't realize how much these ancient cultures shared.
I spent almost two hours looking at everything, and then decided to stick around for the special talk. I nearly missed it because I went to the main entrance! Luckily, a staff member directed me to the right hall just in time. Dr. Khan’s lecture was really insightful; it showed how seemingly minor things, like which herbs were traded, had a huge impact on population health across the continent. She mentioned how one Chinese herb, Ginseng, became a staple medicine in the Roman world. I managed to get a signed copy of her book afterward! Definitely worth the trip, even on a Saturday evening.
